Working with an Architect

If you have never been through the process of designing and building a home you may be surprised by the complexity of the building process you are about to step into. There is a lot of value an Architect brings to the entire journey of making your dreams a reality.

We will provide you with a truly customized design and can provide additional insights into your project that other home design services do not. Whether you are looking for a specific style of home, want a standard looking home with better performance, or any number of other design considerations an architect can walk you through the process and deliver a higher quality product.

Architects are trained to understand why design matters and what it can do for you. We can help you understand what can be done with the budget you have. We provide visualizations that allow you to make informed decisions and be part of the process. We help your project through the complex documentation, approvals, and permitting processes.

Beyond the design of your home, an architect can assist you throughout the construction of your home to ensure you get the quality that was intended in the design and promised by the contractor.

Our services can help you avoid costly headaches along the way and prevent you from paying a premium for an inferior built product.

Other Options

While we believe that an Architect can bring a lot of value we also understand that this does not always work for everyone’s budget.

The majority of the homes built today fit into what we define as the standard home design category. These home designs are usually driven mostly by layout and then dressed up with roof lines and siding. They often include minimal design considerations beyond the basics but are admittedly the most affordable way to get into a typical home.

Licensed Architects are held to a high standard of care which means they are generally more detailed in the documenation of plans, we also carry a deeper knowledge of code and design considerations and typically provide more services in our process than most other home design services. If you are only looking for typical home design services we are likely a more expensive option and may not be the right fit for you. Some other options you may have for house plans include the following:

  • PRODUCTION BUILDERS - Specialize in producing standard home designs. Be advised that they limit you to a small selection of plans and allow only few small changes to their stock plans. While this leads to more affordability it greatly limits the ability to tailor your home and its designs to fit your needs and personality.

  • THE INTERNET - You may be able to find a plan you like on the web, but be aware that these plans often times do not contain all of the information needed to obtain a building permit in your jurisdiction and they will not be adjusted to fit your particular site. You may be hiring someone to redraw the plans for you in the end. Some websites will offer these services for an additional fee.

  • HOME DESIGN AND DRAFTING SERVICE - There may be a local drafting or house plan provider that you can find to produce the kind of design and documentation you are looking for.

  • DESIGN BUILD CONTRACTOR - Some custom home builders will have a drafting service in house and will just include the cost of the plans in the cost of building the home.
